Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Tomatoes
Provide the main body, acidity and flavour of the soup.
Corn starch
Thickens the soup as it is stirred in, giving it a smoother body.
Corn
Adds sweetness and body to the soup base.

The step that matters

Add the corn starch mixture to the soup and stir well. Cornstarch must be dissolved in cold water first so it does not clump. Stirring it into hot liquid then distributes it evenly, so the soup thickens smoothly instead of becoming lumpy.
