Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken giblets
Provide the main meaty flavour and body of the soup as they simmer.
Flour
Thickens the stock into a smooth, lightly bodied soup as it cooks.
Butter
Carries the frying of the giblets and vegetables, adding richness and browning flavour.
Onion
Adds sweetness and savoury depth when fried in butter before the stock is added.

The step that matters

Frying the giblets and vegetables in butter. Frying until lightly browned builds savoury flavour through browning reactions. Pale, undercooked aromatics would leave the soup tasting flat once it simmers.
