Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Rice
Forms an edible outer shell that holds each orange together while it cooks.
Oranges
Provide the fruit core and aroma that flavour the dish from within.

The step that matters

Tie the rice around each orange securely. If the rice wrapping is loose or uneven, it can open or shift during the long boil, exposing the orange and leaving the ball misshapen.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (rice, sugar, cream, vanilla):

  1. Coconutfits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Blueberryfits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against rice, sugar, cream, vanilla. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
