Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Potatoes
Form the bulk of the salad and absorb the dressing as they are sliced while warm.
Olive oil
Carries flavor and coats the potato slices, adding richness and moisture.
Vinegar
Adds acidity that brightens the dressing and balances the richness of the oil.
Parsley
Adds fresh, herbal aroma and color to the salad.

The step that matters

Dress the potatoes while they are still warm. Warm potato slices absorb oil and vinegar more readily than cold ones, so seasoning them early gives a more evenly flavored salad.

Swap the onion

The recipe marks onion as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (potato, pepper, parsley, olive, vinegar):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Tomatofits better
  3. Carrotfits better
