What each ingredient does

Java coffee
Provides the main coffee flavor once roasted and brewed.
Lard
Adds fat that carries aroma and gives the roasted coffee a richer body.

The step that matters

Roast slowly, stirring constantly. Coffee beans and fat can scorch quickly over heat. Slow, constant stirring browns the beans evenly, so the brew tastes roasted rather than burnt and bitter.
