What each ingredient does

Strawberries
Provide the fruit that softens and absorbs the sweet syrup during preserving.
Sugar
Dissolves into the water to form a syrup that sweetens and helps preserve the fruit.

The step that matters

Boil for 15 minutes. Boiling dissolves the sugar fully into the water and concentrates the syrup. A syrup that is too dilute gives weaker preservation and a watery result.
