Golden Cream

Why it works: Nutmeg and pepper match in chemistry and in kitchens. They rank in the top 7% of all ingredient pairs, and cooks put them together in 13,015 recipes. Both carry 4'-methylacetophenone, which smells bitter almond. The science ↓

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Pumpkin
Provides the main body, flavour and thickness of the soup.
Chicken broth
Forms the liquid base that carries the soup's flavour and moisture.
Butter
Adds fat for a smoother, richer mouthfeel.
Cream sauce
Adds richness and a creamy texture to the soup.

The step that matters

Serve very hot; do not boil.. Once cream is added, boiling can cause it to separate or curdle, so the soup should be kept hot but below a boil.

Swap the pumpkin

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, nutmeg, pepper, butter, cream, sauce):

  1. Lemonfits better

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, nutmeg, pepper, butter, cream, sauce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
