Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Pumpkin
Provides the main body, flavour and colour of the soup.
Chicken broth
Supplies the liquid base that carries the other ingredients.
Butter
Adds fat for a richer mouthfeel and rounded flavour.
Pure cream sauce
Adds richness and a smooth, creamy texture.

The step that matters

Serve very hot; do not boil.. Once the cream is added, boiling can cause it to curdle or separate and make the soup grainy. Keeping it hot but below a boil preserves a smooth, uniform texture.

Swap the pumpkin

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, nutmeg, pepper, butter, cream, sauce):

  1. Lemonfits better
  2. Coconutfits better
  3. Avocadofits better
  4. Pumpkinthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, nutmeg, pepper, butter, cream, sauce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
