What each ingredient does

Cabbage
Forms the main body of the dish and gives it its bulk and mild sweetness when cooked.
Cream sauce
Adds richness and fat, softening the cabbage's flavour and giving a smooth finish.

The step that matters

Drain in a colander. Cabbage holds a lot of water after boiling. Draining it well keeps the dish from turning watery and lets the cream sauce cling to the cabbage.

Swap the cabbage

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream, sauce):

  1. Horseradishfits better
  2. Mustardfits better
  3. Spinachfits better
