Baked Apples

Oven, in the book's wordsA hot oven

Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a hot oven”. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Select apples of nearly equal size.

  2. Wipe them dry and clean.

  3. Put a very little water in the bottom of the baking vessel.

  4. Place the apples in a hot oven at 400°F (200°C).

  5. Bake moderately tart apples for about 30 minutes and sweet apples for about 45 minutes.
