Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Yeast
Feeds on the sugar and produces carbon dioxide, which makes the drink fizzy.
Cream of tartar
Adds acidity that gives the drink a tart, sharp flavour.
White sugar
Provides the food the yeast ferments into carbon dioxide and alcohol.
Ginger
Contributes the aromatic, spicy flavour of the drink.

The step that matters

Bottling before fermentation is complete. Yeast keeps producing carbon dioxide in a sealed bottle, so the pressure can build and break weak bottles. Letting the mixture cool fully first helps keep the yeast from over-fermenting too quickly.

Swap the lemon

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, cream, ginger):

  1. Vanillafits better
