Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Pumpkin
Forms the thick, smooth body of the soup once cooked and passed through a colander.
Milk
Adds creaminess and dilutes the pumpkin into a soup-like consistency.
Butter
Adds richness and a silky mouthfeel to the soup.
Bread
Soaks up the hot soup, adding body and softening its texture.

The step that matters

Boil for 10 minutes, stirring often. Milk can scorch or stick to the bottom of the pan at a rolling boil, and the sugars and proteins in it brown quickly. Frequent stirring keeps heat even and prevents a burnt taste.

Swap the pumpkin
