Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare the oysters

  1. Open the oyster shells and remove the oysters.

  2. Melt some butter and mix in pepper and coarse sea salt.

  3. Roll the oysters in the butter mixture and place them back in the shells.

  4. Add more than one oyster in each shell if desired.

Bake and serve

  1. Cover the oysters with bread crumbs and small pieces of butter.

  2. Place the shells in a pan and set in the oven at 400°F (200°C).

  3. Serve in the hot shells with lemon.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Oysters
Provide the main body and briny flavor of the dish.
Butter
Adds richness and moisture, and helps the crumbs brown in the oven.
Bread crumbs
Form a crisp, golden topping that protects the oysters from drying.
Lemon
Adds acidity that brightens the rich butter and briny oysters.

The step that matters

Baking the oysters until just cooked. Oysters turn tough and rubbery when overcooked, so they should be removed once the edges curl and the topping is golden.
