Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Strip off one-third of the skin from each banana and loosen the skin around the fruit with a silver knife.

  3. Arrange the bananas in a baking pan with the stripped side facing up.

Bake

  1. Place ¼ teaspoon of butter on each banana.

  2. Sprinkle each banana with 1 teaspoon of sugar and ½ teaspoon of water.

  3. Bake for about 20 minutes.

What each ingredient does

Bananas
Provide the main fruit that softens and turns sweet and tender as it bakes.
Butter
Adds fat that carries flavour and helps the banana surface brown lightly.
Sugar
Sweetens the fruit and helps the surface caramelise and brown in the oven.
