Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Grated pineapple
Provides the main fruit flavour and a bright, slightly acidic taste.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and helps balance the tartness of the pineapple.
Gelatine
Sets the liquid mixture into a firm, sliceable texture as it chills.
Heavy cream
Adds fat and richness, making the set dessert softer and creamier.

The step that matters

Fold in the whipped cream when the mixture begins to set. If the gelatine has set too far, the cream will not blend in evenly and leaves lumps. If the mixture is still very liquid, the cream deflates and the dessert will not hold its airy texture.

Swap the pineapple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Raspberryfits better
  4. Pineapplethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
