Sea Pie

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Cut the steak into thin slices using a sharp knife.

  2. Peel and slice the onions as thin as possible.

  3. Wash the carrot and turnip, scrape the carrot clean, peel the turnip, and cut them into thin slices.

  4. Season the meat slices with pepper and salt to taste.

  5. Layer the meat in a two-quart saucepan, sprinkling some sliced vegetables on each layer.

  6. Add enough cold water to just cover the meat.

  7. Bring the saucepan to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer.

  8. For the crust, chop the suet finely after removing the skin.

  9. Sprinkle a little flour over the suet to prevent sticking.

  10. In a bowl, mix the flour with salt and baking powder.

  11. Add the chopped suet and rub it into the flour with your hands.

  12. Add enough cold water to form a stiff paste.

  13. Flour a board and turn the paste out onto it.

  14. Flour a rolling pin and roll out the paste to fit the size of the saucepan.
