Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Bind the batter and add structure as the pudding sets.
Flour
Thickens the batter and gives the pudding its body.
Butter
Adds richness and moisture to the pudding.
Cherries
Supply fruit flavour and moisture throughout the pudding.

The step that matters

Boil steadily in a covered pot. The pudding must stay in gently boiling water for the full time so the egg and flour mixture sets through. Water that drops below a steady boil slows setting and can leave the centre wet and dense.
