Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Milk
Forms the liquid base that the flour thickens and the cream enriches.
Flour
Thickens the hot milk so the base becomes smooth and body-rich.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and softens the texture of the frozen ice cream.
Cream
Adds fat for a rich, smooth texture once frozen.
Eggs
Listed in the ingredients but not used in any step, so no role is given.

The step that matters

Cook the flour mixture, stirring often. Flour must be heated long enough to cook out its raw taste and swell into a thickened base. Stirring prevents lumps and scorching on the bottom of the pan.
