Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bananas
Provide the main flavour and bulk, and a smooth, creamy body when pureed.
Gelatine
Sets the mixture so the frozen dessert holds its shape when sliced or scooped.
Whipped cream
Adds lightness and richness, giving the whip an airy, creamy texture.
Powdered sugar
Sweetens the mixture and dissolves easily into the smooth banana base.
Orange juice
Adds acidity and citrus aroma that brighten the banana flavour.

The step that matters

Fold in the whipped cream only when the mixture begins to stiffen. If the base is too liquid, the cream deflates and the mixture separates. If it has set too firmly, the cream will not blend evenly, leaving lumps and a dense texture.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (banana, sugar, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Pineapplefits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against banana, sugar, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
