Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs
What each ingredient does
- Whole barley
- Roasted barley gives the coffee its brown colour and toasty, nutty flavour.
- Wheat
- Roasting wheat adds browning and a toasted, malty aroma to the brew.
- Rye
- Roasted rye contributes browning and a toasty, slightly spicy flavour to the brew.
- Coffee blend
- Provides the characteristic coffee aroma and bitterness that defines the drink.
- Fresh cream
- Adds richness and fat, softening the roasted, slightly bitter flavour.
The step that matters
Set over a small fire for 1 minute without boiling. Boiling can over-extract bitter compounds and make the coffee harsh, while gentle heat keeps the brew smooth and aromatic.
