Omelet with Mushrooms

Ingredients

Directions

Prepare the mushrooms

  1. If using canned mushrooms, heat them in enough white sauce to moisten.

  2. If using fresh mushrooms, clean and fry them in enough butter to prevent burning, seasoning with salt and pepper.

Make the omelet

  1. In a bowl, beat the eggs with salt and pepper for half a minute.

  2. Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add 1 teaspoon of butter. When the butter begins to brown, pour in the beaten eggs.

  3. As the eggs set, gently break them with a fork to allow uncooked egg to reach the pan.

  4. When the omelet is cooked to your liking, place the mushrooms in the center.

  5. Fold the omelet by lifting one half with a flexible knife and laying it over the other half.

  6. Loosen the omelet from the pan and turn it out carefully to serve immediately.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Set into a delicate structure that forms the body of the omelet.
Mushrooms
Add moisture and earthy flavour to the filling.
Butter
Adds richness and browning to the pan surface and prevents sticking.

The step that matters

Break the eggs as they set. Gently breaking the just-setting eggs with a fork lets liquid egg flow to the hot pan, producing a tender, evenly cooked omelet rather than a rubbery one with raw pockets.
