Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Set the orange mixture into a thick, cream-like texture as they cook.
Cream
Adds richness and a smooth, creamy body.
Oranges
Provide the main citrus flavour from juice, pulp and grated peel.
Powdered sugar
Sweetens the mixture and balances the citrus acidity.

The step that matters

Simmer the mixture until it thickens. Egg proteins thicken as they heat, but overheating can curdle them. Keep the heat gentle and stir to get a smooth, cream-like texture.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, sugar, cream):
