What each ingredient does

Fowl
Releases flavor and body into the water as it simmers, becoming the base of the broth.
Rice
Thickens the broth slightly as its starch releases during simmering.
Turnips
Add mild sweetness and earthy flavor to the broth as they soften.
Carrots
Add sweetness and color to the broth as they cook down.
