Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Beef brisket
Forms the main body of the dish and becomes tender through long boiling.
Bread crumbs
Absorb moisture and give the stuffing body so it holds together when sliced.
Egg
Binds the stuffing ingredients together as it sets.
Onion
Adds aromatic flavour to the stuffing.

The step that matters

Sewing the brisket closed around the stuffing. If the seam is not sewn tightly, the dressing can escape during the long boil and the stuffing will not hold together when the beef is sliced.

Swap the mace

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (beef, bread, pepper, onion, egg):

  1. Parsleyfits better
  2. Garlicfits better
  3. Thymefits better
  4. Macethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against beef, bread, pepper, onion, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
