What each ingredient does

Fowl
Forms the main body of the dish and becomes tender through slow simmering.
Rice
Absorbs flavor from the broth and turns soft, serving as the accompanying starch.
Mutton broth
Cooks the fowl gently and carries flavor into both the meat and the rice.
Onion
Adds aromatic sweetness and savory depth to the broth.

The step that matters

Adding the rice about 30 minutes before serving. Rice cooks quickly and can turn mushy if added too early. Timing it so it finishes just as the fowl becomes tender keeps the grains intact and the texture pleasant.
