Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Form the tortillas and set into a firm, sliceable structure when cooked.
Butter
Fats the pan and adds richness and golden browning when frying.
Bread crumbs
Coat the rolled tortillas, adding a crisp, golden outer layer when fried.

The step that matters

Cook until set, then roll tightly. Egg must be fully set before rolling; if it is still runny it tears and cannot hold a tight roll. Cooking over medium heat gives a set, flexible sheet without browning too quickly.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, parsley, pepper, butter, bread):

  1. Shallotfits better
  2. Capsicumfits better
  3. Chivefits better
  4. Onionthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, parsley, pepper, butter, bread. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
