Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Celery
Provides the crisp, fresh body and mild flavour that forms the bulk of the salad.
Oysters
Supply the main seafood flavour and tender texture once gently cooked.
Cabbage
Adds a tender, slightly sweet vegetable base that soaks up the dressing.
Mayonnaise sauce
Adds richness and fat, giving the salad a creamy coating and smooth mouthfeel.

The step that matters

Cook the oysters slowly. Oysters turn firm and rubbery when overcooked. Gentle heat in just-simmering liquid cooks them through while keeping them tender and juicy.

Swap the cabbage

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (celery, oyster, vinegar, sauce):

  1. Mustardfits better
  2. Horseradishfits better
  3. Cucumberfits better
