Poached Egg with Salmon

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare the cases

  1. Cut rounds of bread 1 inch thick and remove the centers to create cases.

  2. Brush the outsides of the bread cases with melted butter and brown them in a 400°F (200°C) oven.

Fill and serve

  1. Heat the flaked canned salmon in a cup of cream sauce and fill the center of the bread cases.

  2. Top each filled case with a poached egg.

  3. Garnish with parsley and sliced lemon before serving.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bread
Forms the edible case that holds the filling and crisps when browned.
Melted butter
Adds fat that helps the bread case brown and gives it a rich flavour.
Canned salmon
Provides the savoury, flaky filling that is heated in the sauce.
Cream sauce
Binds the salmon into a moist, creamy filling.
Eggs
Add a soft, runny yolk that enriches the filling when cut into.

The step that matters

Brown the bread cases. Browning the butter-brushed bread in a hot oven dries and toasts the surface, so the case stays crisp and does not turn soggy under the warm creamy filling.
