Good Wheat Bread

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine 1 pint of sifted flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of salt.

  2. Pour boiling water over the mixture until it forms a thick paste, stirring well.

  3. Once cool, stir in the soaked yeast cake and set aside in a warm place to rise.

  4. When the mixture is very light, sift more flour into a bread bowl and make a hollow in the center.

  5. Add the prepared yeast mixture and 1 quart of lukewarm water, then mix into a soft dough.

  6. Cover the dough and let it rise overnight.

  7. In the morning, add 1 cup of lard, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and more flour as needed.

  8. Knead until the dough no longer sticks to your hands.

  9. Let the dough rise for 2 to 3 hours, then shape into loaves.

  10. Allow the loaves to stand for about 15 minutes before baking.
