Walnut Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, mix sugar and cold water.

  3. Add eggs, flour, vanilla extract, and baking powder. Mix until smooth.

  4. Pour the batter into two greased cake pans.

  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  6. For the frosting, combine granulated sugar and milk in a saucepan.

  7. Heat over medium, stirring until it boils. Let it boil for 5 minutes without stirring.

  8. Remove from heat and set the pan in a dish of cold water.

  9. Flavor the frosting and stir constantly until thick and creamy.

  10. Spread the frosting between the layers and on top of the cake.
