Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Rice
Provides the body of the soup as its starch softens and thickens the broth.
Broth
Forms the flavour base and liquid in which the rice cooks.
Leeks
Add a mild onion-like sweetness and aroma to the broth.

The step that matters

Parboiling and rinsing the rice. Boiling the rice first and then rinsing it in cold water removes surface starch and impurities, keeping the broth clear and the grains from clumping.

Swap the parsley

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (rice, leek):

  1. Turmericfits better
  2. Capersfits better
  3. Celeryfits better
  4. Parsleythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against rice, leek. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
