What each ingredient does

Sweet cream
Whipped into soft peaks to form the light, airy body of the dessert.
Gelatin
Sets the whipped cream so it holds its shape when chilled.
Marshmallows
Add sweetness and a soft, chewy texture within the cream.
English walnuts
Add crunch that contrasts with the soft, creamy base.

The step that matters

Beating the gelatin into the cream. Dissolved gelatin must be fully blended in evenly; if it cools or clumps before mixing, it forms lumps or streaks instead of a smooth set. Cream whipped to soft peaks can also deflate if overbeaten at this point.

Swap the walnut

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream, sugar, gelatin):

  1. Almondfits better
  2. Pistachiofits better
  3. Chestnutfits better
  4. Walnutthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against cream, sugar, gelatin. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
