Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Lemons
Provide the main sour juice and aromatic oils from the zest.
Sugar
Sweetens the drink and balances the sourness of the citrus.
Egg whites
Whipped by shaking to create a light, foamy texture on top.

The step that matters

Shake to produce foam. Egg white proteins trap air when shaken hard with ice, forming a stable foam. Too gentle a shake leaves the drink flat and without the light head.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lemon, sugar, egg):

  1. Orangethe original
  2. Vanillafits about as well
  3. Limefits less well
  4. Raisinfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against lemon, sugar, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
