French Bread

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Mix flour and water to form a dough until large bubbles form, about 30 minutes.

  2. Wet your hands to keep the dough supple and knead until elastic and not sticky.

  3. Place the dough in a warm place to rise for 1-2 hours.

  4. Sprinkle flour on a board and take out enough dough for one loaf.

  5. Shape the dough into a round loaf by gathering the sides carefully.

  6. Flour a rolling pin and roll the dough to form a long shape.

  7. Place the shaped loaf on a floured baking pan, leaving space between loaves.

  8. Sprinkle flour on top and let rise for another 25-30 minutes.

  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) until golden.
