Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Roasted chicken
Provides the main protein and savoury flavour of the dish.
Bread crumbs
Soaked in milk and mixed in, they give the mixture body and a soft, smooth texture.
Milk
Softens the bread crumbs so they blend evenly into the chicken.
Chicken broth or boiling water
Thins the mixture to a soft, spoonable consistency.

The step that matters

Squeeze the soaked bread nearly dry. Bread soaked in milk holds a lot of liquid. Squeezing out the excess keeps the mixture from becoming watery, so the thinning liquid can be controlled and the texture stays smooth and spoonable.

Swap the parsley

The recipe marks parsley as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, bread, milk):

  1. Garlicfits better
  2. Cinnamonfits better
  3. Thymefits better
  4. Parsleythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, bread, milk. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
