Black Silk Stockings
Ingredients
Directions
Cut white soap into thin bits and dissolve in soft water.
Mix a little of the dissolved soap in cold water and add 1 teaspoon of salt.
Turn stockings inside out and rub the soap on the dirtiest places.
Wash the stockings well in lukewarm suds.
Repeat washing in fresh suds until clean.
Rinse through two cold waters, adding a little blue to the last rinse.
Squeeze out excess water, stretch the stockings, and hang them out immediately.
While damp, turn them right side out, stretch, and pin them on a clean blanket.
Rub them with a smooth stone until dry and glossy.
