Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sugar
Dissolved in boiling water to sweeten the base and soften the texture of the frozen ice.
Grape juice
Provides the main flavour and liquid for the frappe.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the grape flavour and balances the sweetness.
Ice
Chills the mixture so it freezes while the salt lowers the ice's melting point.

The step that matters

Scrape the frozen mixture from the sides of the can and beat well before serving.. Ice crystals form on the cold walls first, so scraping and beating break them up and keep the frappe smooth rather than icy and coarse.

Swap the grape

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, lemon):

  1. Orangefits better
  2. Limefits better
  3. Vanillafits better
  4. Grapethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
