Cherry Short Cake

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Prepare a shortcake as you would for strawberry shortcake.

  2. Once baked, split the cake in half and butter the inside of each half.

  3. Remove the pits from the cherries and add them generously to one half of the cake.

  4. Sweeten the cherries to taste, then place the other half of the cake on top.

  5. Serve the cake cut in pie fashion, keeping layers separate to avoid sogginess.

Recipe from a historical cookbook (Internet Archive).
