Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Egg whites
Whipped into foam, they lighten the frozen punch and give it a airy, spoonable texture.
Granulated sugar
Sweetens the punch and lowers its freezing point, keeping it soft enough to spoon before fully firm.
Powdered sugar
Dissolves easily into the whipped whites, adding sweetness and stabilizing the foam.
Jamaica rum
Adds aroma and flavor, and its alcohol keeps the frozen texture from setting rock-hard.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that brightens the sweetness and balances the punch.

The step that matters

Folding in the whipped egg whites. Whites must be stiffly beaten and only gently stirred in, so the foam does not collapse. Deflated whites leave the punch dense and heavy instead of light and airy.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, lemon, rum, champagne, egg):

  1. Pineapplefits better
  2. Vanillafits about as well
  3. Raspberryfits about as well
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, lemon, rum, champagne, egg. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
