Ingredients

Directions

  1. Make an opening in the center of the flour and stir in the yeast, Indian meal or mashed potato, salt, and lard.

  2. Mix in enough luke-warm milk or water to create a thick batter using about two-thirds of the flour.

  3. Cover the mixture with a woollen blanket and let it rise until full of holes.

  4. Mix in the remaining flour and knead the dough well.

  5. Place the dough in buttered tins and let it rise in the pans before baking.
