Bread Ptoanuis

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 300°F (150°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point. The book gives no cooking times either; the times in the steps were added in transcription, so check for doneness rather than trusting the clock.

Prepare

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).

  2. Brown the minced onion in a pan.

  3. Put the bread crumbs through a mincer after shelling the peanuts.

Bake

  1. In a bowl, combine the bread crumbs, milk, ground peanuts, salt, minced onion, and powdered herb. Mix well and transfer to a buttered pie dish.

  2. Bake slowly until nicely browned, about 30-40 minutes.

  3. If it appears too dry, add a little water or a few pieces of butter on top.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Bread crumbs
Provides the bulk and absorbs the milk to form a soft, moist body.
Ground peanuts
Adds richness, nutty flavor and body to the bread.
Milk
Moistens the crumbs so the mixture binds and stays tender while baking.
Onion
Adds savory sweetness and aroma as it softens and browns.

The step that matters

Bake slowly until nicely browned. A low oven heats the mixture gently so it sets and browns evenly without drying out. If it looks too dry, the record suggests adding a little water or butter.

Swap the sage

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (onion, bread, milk, peanut, butter):

  1. Garlicfits better
  2. Cinnamonfits better
  3. Nutmegfits better
  4. Sagethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against onion, bread, milk, peanut, butter. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
