What each ingredient does
- Celery
- Provides the crisp, crunchy texture that makes up most of the salad.
- Mayonnaise dressing
- Adds fat and creaminess that coats the celery and gives the salad its richness.
The step that matters
Hold the dressing until serving. Mayonnaise dressing draws moisture out of celery and softens its crunch over time. Combining the dressing and salad just before serving keeps the celery crisp and the texture fresh.
