Pistachio Cake

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

  3. Add the sweet milk, eggs, cream of tartar, and baking soda; mix well.

  4. Stir in the flour, vanilla, almond extract, and floured walnuts until combined.

  5. Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.

  6. For the frosting, boil the water and 1½ cups sugar until it thickens and forms threads.

  7. Pour the hot syrup over the stiffly beaten egg white, adding the vanilla and almond extracts.

  8. Beat the frosting until it cools and is spreadable.
