What each ingredient does

Gelatine
Sets the liquid into a firm, sliceable dessert that holds the fruit in place.
Oranges
Add acidity and fresh flavour that balances the sweetness of the dessert.
Bananas
Add soft texture and natural sweetness to the layered fruit.
Peaches
Add juiciness and a mild sweet aroma to the layers.
Whipped cream
Adds fat and a light, creamy contrast to the firm gelatine and fruit.

The step that matters

Let the dessert stand until cold and firm. Gelatine only sets once it is cold, and it needs time to form a firm network. Cutting too early causes the slices to collapse and weep.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (banana, peach, grape, sugar, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Apricotfits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against banana, peach, grape, sugar, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
