Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the main body of meat that holds together when pressed and cooled.
Cooking liquid (in the method)
Adds moisture and savory flavor to the pressed meat as it sets.

The step that matters

Place a weight on top. Pressing while the meat cools squeezes out excess liquid and packs the pieces together, so the set slices hold their shape instead of crumbling.

Swap the cucumber

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, lemon):

  1. Asparagusfits better
  2. Spinachfits better
  3. Capsicumfits better
  4. Cucumberthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
