Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Layer thinly sliced fresh tomatoes in a buttered dish.

  3. Season with coarse sea salt, black pepper, and small bits of butter.

  4. Add a layer of bread crumbs.

  5. Repeat layering until the dish is filled, finishing with bread crumbs and butter on top.

  6. Bake for 1 hour.
