Why it works: Carrot and turnip match in chemistry and in kitchens. They rank in the top 1% of all ingredient pairs, and cooks put them together in 8,002 recipes. Both carry coumarin, which smells sweet, hay. The science ↓
Creamed Carrots and Turnips
Ingredients
Directions
Scrape and remove the core from the carrots, then cut them into small strips.
Boil the carrots until tender, then drain the water.
Add coarse sea salt, black pepper, a sprinkle of sugar, and a large piece of butter, and let them simmer.
Sprinkle flour over the top and stir thoroughly.
Add enough milk to create a sauce and let it boil for 5 to 10 minutes.
Peel the turnips, cut them into cubes, and cook them in the same way.
