What each ingredient does

Raspberries
Provide the main fruit flavor and the juice that forms the base of the vinegar.
Vinegar
Acidifies the mixture, extracting fruit flavor and giving the finished syrup its tang.
Sugar
Sweetens the juice and balances the sharpness of the vinegar.

The step that matters

Boil for 15 minutes. Boiling after adding sugar dissolves it fully and thickens the syrup, while the heat helps stabilize the mixture for bottling. Too short a boil may leave it thin and less stable.
