Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Egg white
Whipped into the mixture to add a light, airy texture as it freezes.
Sugar
Sweetens the punch and keeps it from freezing rock-hard, giving a softer texture.
Lemon juice
Adds acidity that balances the sweetness and brightens the mint flavor.
Crème de menthe
Provides the mint flavor and aroma that defines the punch.

The step that matters

Add the egg white just before freezing. Adding the beaten egg white at the last moment keeps it light and foamy. If it sits too long in the acidic, sugary liquid it can deflate and lose the airy texture the punch depends on.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, sugar, lemon):

  1. Orangethe original
  2. Vanillafits about as well
  3. Limefits less well
  4. Raisinfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, sugar, lemon. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
