Cook and serve

  1. Place on stove and heat gradually. Cook slowly for 30 minutes after it begins to boil.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Lean, juicy lamb meat
Provides the main flavor and body of the broth as it simmers.
Well-cooked rice
Added in small amount to thicken the broth slightly and add body.

The step that matters

Skim off the fat after straining, not before. Fat rises and mixes into the broth while it simmers. Skimming only after straining lets the fat separate and lift off cleanly, leaving a clearer, lighter broth.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lamb, meat, rice):

  1. Asparagusfits better
  2. Potatofits better
  3. Okrafits better
  4. Onionthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against lamb, meat, rice. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
